AVERY, Gordon L. “Gordie” . – of Clio, age 78, died Saturday, August 29, 2015 at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 1PM Thursday, September 3, 2015 at the O’Guinn Family Funeral in Clio. Pastor Ed Emmerling officiating. Burial In Thetford Township Cemetery. Family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Wednesday from 11AM until 8PM and Thursday from 10AM until the time of service at 1PM. A memorial by the Clio Eagles #3609 will be held at 7PM Wednesday evening at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Genesee County.
Gordie was born December 14, 1936 in Crystal Lake Twp., Michigan to the late Floyd L. and Lyle V. (Michael) Avery. He married Shirley Long in 1956 and they welcomed 3 children together. She preceded him in death August 5, 1988. Gordie later married Beverly Freiburger November 23, 1971. She preceded him in death October 2, 2004. Mr. Avery retired from AC in 1988 with 34 years seniority and was a member of the UAW local #651. He was also a member of the Clio Eagles #3609 and Birch Run Moose Lodge #2426. Gordie enjoyed hunting, woodworking, gardening, golfing and fishing. He was a loving father, grandfather and great grandfather.
Surviving are: Children: Mark (LouAnn) Avery of Mt. Morris, Kathryn Seymour of Mt. Morris, Paula (Dennis) McWhirter of Bancroft and Yvonne (Bruce) Phipps of Flippin, AR; 14 grandchildren: Krystina Seymour, Sarah Bush, Nicole Avery, Brian McWhirter, Kevin McWhirter, Shannon Penfold, Eli Phipps, Beverly Freiburger, Louise Freiburger, Ron Freiburger Jr., Robert Freiburger Jr., Tara Couturier, Mike Couturier and Gene Couturier; 23 great-grandchildren; Brother, Melvin Avery; Special friend, Carol Harrod; Many nieces, nephews, other loving family members and friends. Gordie was preceded in death by his sons: Chuck, Bob and Ron Freiburger; Brothers: Kenneth, Lloyd and Dale Avery; Sisters: Alice Goff and Mary Avery.
