HAUTALA, Janet Louise – Age 92, died Friday, January 8, 2016 at the Green Acres Assisted Living, Mt. Pleasant, MI.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Pastor Tom Tarpley officiating.
Interment at Sunset Hills Cemetery.
Visitation Tuesday from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Janet was born February 27, 1923, daughter of the late Charles and Fern (Merrick) Hill. She was baptized at Lincoln Park United Methodist Church and had been a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Grand Blanc United Methodist Church and was currently a member of Lincoln Road United Methodist Church in Riverdale, MI.
Janet graduated from Flint Central High School and received her Bachelors and Masters from Michigan State University.
She married Aimo Jack Hautala on November 21, 1946 in Lansing at the Central United Methodist Church Chapel and they spent 57 loving and wonderful years together before he preceded her in death in 2003.
Janet taught the Bishop Method having trained under Edna herself. She taught home economics at Mt. Morris and Holmes Junior High School.
Janet enjoyed reading, traveling, Bible study, listening to music and playing the piano.
She also loved sewing, art, was an excellent seamstress, loved home design and interiors. She designed her own home that her late husband built for her. Janet also designed her own wedding dress and it was worn by three generations.
Janet was a fearless leader and sweet person who gave her time and caring to many people.
Surviving are daughter, Rev. Dr. Jana Lynn (Dr. Gabriel) Almeida;
daughters-in-law, Kathy (Mike) Miller and Kathleen Hautala;
grandchildren, Jennifer (Rick) Wilkening,
Thomas (Staci) Almeida,
Katie (Nicholas) Le Tarte,
Ryan (Erika) Miller,
Meagan (Arturo)Araujo,
Matt Hautala and
Mark Hautala;
great-grandchildren, Gabriel, Isaac, Elijah, Charles, Jack, Lily, Violet, Isaac, Alex, Vivian and Livi;
nephews and nieces, Scott (Debbie) English, Paula (Jack) Beller and Judy Schulte.
She was preceded in death by sister, Mary (Bob) English; brother, Eugene (Ruth) Hill; sons, John Ames and James Maki; granddaughter, Jessica Louise Almeida and nephew, Dale Hill.
