SHURTER, Richard Duane – of Davison, age 83, passed away July 23, 2014 at Devonshire Retirement Village in Lapeer. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 1:30 PM Tuesday, July 29, 2014 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 404 N. Dayton St., Davison, Rev. Fr. Andrew A. Czajkowski celebrant. Inurnment of cremated remains with Military Honors will take place at a later date. Visitation will be 4-8 PM Monday at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Rd., Davison. On Tuesday, visitation will be at the church from 12:30 PM until the time of service. A Rosary will be prayed 6:00 PM Monday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.
Richard was born in Flint, MI on June 10, 1931, son of the late Lawrence and Helen (Pinter) Shurter. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Richard proudly served his country in the Navy during the Korean War and worked at Buick for 37 years retiring in 1986. He had many hobbies and was an avid outdoorsman especially enjoying hunting and fishing.
Richard is survived by his wife of 62 years, Caroline; children, Linda (Norman) DeBuck, Ross, Tom, Rick and Jeff Shurter; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister, Margaret (Steve) Loncarevic and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Matthess. The family would like to thank Devonshire Retirement Village and Home Town Hospice Staff for their professional and thoughtful care.
