Constance "Connie" Austin, age 74 of Corunna, passed away on Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at Oliver Woods Retirement Community in Owosso. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 17, 2013 at Watkins Brothers Funeral Homes, Corunna Chapel. Pastor David Strobe will be officiating with burial to follow in Oak Hill Cemetery, Owosso. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 5-8 p.m. and again on Saturday from 1-8 p.m.
Connie was born September 27, 1938 in Owosso to Lyle and Lela (Wright) Griffus. She attended Owosso High School, graduating in 1957. On May 17, 1958, Connie married John Phillip Austin in Owosso and together raised two sons.
Connie was a Secretary in the Legal Department for MESSA for 15 years. She had also worked for Dwight Kittle and Blackmore-Rowe Insurance Company.
Mrs. Austin was an active member of the Corunna United Methodist Church where she had served as Secretary and Treasurer. She was involved in the Food Pantry, being a past Coordinator and was past Commissioner of the Corunna Historical Village. In addition to her church and community involvement, she had also belonged to various Women's organizations.
Mrs. Austin is survived by her husband of 54 years, John; 2 sons: Scott (Lorrie) Austin of Costa Rica and Roger Austin of Corunna; grandchildren: Fauna (Dave) Egle and Albert Widing; 2 great grand children: Nicholas and Madelin Egle; sister, Linda (Charles) Keenan; brother, Neil (JoAnn) Griffus; sister-in-law, Laura Griffus.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Kenneth Griffus.
