PAPATHANASIOU, Kostas - Of Swartz Creek, age 83, died Monday, July 13, 2015 at McLaren-Flint.
Funeral service will be held 11am Friday, July 17, 2015 at St. Mary Magdalene Orthodox Church, 2439 South Long Lake Road, Fenton,
The Very Reverend Father Paul Jannakos officiating.
Burial in Evergreen Cemetery.
Those desiring may make contributions to St. Mary Magdalene Orthodox Church.
Visitation 3-9pm Thursday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint. A Parastas Service will be held 7pm Thursday evening at the funeral home. Visitation 10am Friday at the church until the time of the service.
Kostas was born in Palestra Florina, Greece on July 26, 1931, the son of the late George and Velika (Dimitriadou) Papathanasiou. He was a resident of Swartz Creek and Flint Township for the past 45 years, having come from Greece. On June 17, 1953, he married Andigoni Argiropoulos in Greece. Kostas loved to garden and was an avid walker. He was a former member of St. Nicholas Orthodox Church and a member of St. Mary Magdalene Orthodox Church. Kostas worked for General Motors for 28 years and a member of UAW Local #659. He was also the former owner of Country Carriage Restaurant in Swartz Creek.
Surviving are daughters, Freida and husband Terry Owens of Swartz Creek and Minka and husband Charles Owens, of Fenton;
grandchildren, Kristen and husband Jason Jakubus, Stephan and wife Ann, Megan and Lauren;
great-grandchildren, Mia and Cohen Jakubus;
siblings, Natso, Chena, Lazaros and Venka;
brother-in-law, George and wife Niki Naum;
and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Andigoni on July 21, 1996, and brother Pondelis.
