SHAFFER, Carl J. – of Davison, age 87, passed away December 15, 2017 at Stonegate Health Campus. A Funeral Service followed by Military Honors will be held 11 AM Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Rd., Davison; Pastor Chris Radcliffe officiating. Cremation will follow the service and burial of cremated remains will be in Great Lakes National Cemetery with his beloved wife at a later date. Visitation will be 12-3 and 5-8 PM Tuesday and 10 AM until time of service on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Davison.
Carl was born in Kent County, MI on January 10, 1930, son of the late James William and Amy (Miller) Shaffer. Carl proudly served his country with the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He married Esther Johnston on September 26, 1953 in Davison and she preceded him in death on May 24, 2017. Carl was a member of First Baptist Church of Davison. He enjoyed farming and family camping trips. Carl retired from Fisher Body Coldwater Rd. after 43 years of service.
Carl is survived by his children, Carolyn (Dan) Ramirez, James W. (Terri) Shaffer, David C. (Pam) Shaffer, Steven (Diane) Shaffer, Timothy (Fern) Shaffer and Thomas (Nancy) Shaffer; 15 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; four brothers and six sisters. He was preceded in death by one brother, one sister and one grandson.
