MANCOUR, Carl L. – of Grand Blanc, age 72 went to be with our Lord Jesus Christ our Savior in Heaven, on Sunday, March 10, 2019, at the Ann Arbor VA Medical Center. Visitation will be held Sunday, March 17, 2019 4pm-8pm and Monday, March 18, 2019 from 11am-12:30pm at Hill Funeral Home – 11723 S. Saginaw Street, Grand Blanc, Michigan. Funeral service will be held Monday, March 18, 2019 at 12:30pm at Hill Funeral Home with Father Bill Wegher officiating. Full military burial service to follow at 2pm at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly, Michigan. Carl was born November 15, 1946 in Flint, Michigan. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps, 1st Amtrac Battalion, 3rd Marine Division, combat veteran, Vietnam 1966-1967. Awarded the Purple Heart, the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry, and numerous combat action ribbons. He met the “sunshine” of his life Maryanne Giacalone June 1973 and they were married December 3, 1976. Carl retired after 30 years of service from General Motors Buick Motor Division/Powertrain/Hydramatic Flint, and he was a member of UAW Local 599. He was past senior vice-commander and lifetime member of VFW Post 3720 and the Disabled Veterans of America Chapter 3. He was an avid bass fisherman, master angler award, proud of his fast cars, and racing of the 60’s and 70’s. He enjoyed being the sound and lighting engineer for his wife Maryanne and her band. He was a loving husband, devoted son, brother, uncle, and friend. He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife Maryanne; their loving cats, Minka, Willow, Wigit, and Gypsy; his dear sister, Madeline (Roger) Lask; brother, Ernest (Norma) Mancour; many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and childhood friend and fellow Marine Randy May. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Ruth (Watson) Mancour; sister, Barbara; brothers, Junior and Edward. Heartfelt gratitude for the special love and support Carl and Maryanne received from loving brother, Dr. Michael Giacalone, Jr. M.D. and wife Marcia and their daughter Kristi Philpott “little chickadee”; cousin, John Chintyan, dear neighbors, Eric and Jennifer Dann, and their children: Christopher, Lucas, William, and Weston; special friends, Ed and Suzanne Jakeway; dear friend, fellow Marine, Carl’s Platoon Sargent in Vietnam, Sgt. T.J. Smith “Smitty”; and the Ann Arbor VA Medical Center Physicians and staff/University of Michigan physicians vascular surgery team. |
