Edward Stephen Rivette, age 77, passed away peacefully at his home in Lennon, April 25th, 2018.
Ed, loving husband of Ruth Marie (Oginsky) Rivette, was born to Irene Barbara (Kiacz) Rivette and Bernard Rivette on October 23, 1940.
Ed is survived by his wife Ruth, whom he married almost forty-one years ago at St. Joseph Church in Owosso. He is also survived by his three children Jeremiah (Jennifer) Rivette, Zachariah (Candice) Rivette, and Amy (Anthony) Murphy as well as nine grandchildren Brock, Blaine, Brinley, Cyrus, Harvey, Ellen, Charlie, Evie, and Audrey. Ed also leaves behind his siblings David (Sherry) Rivette and Dianne (Larry) Morrison, and many other cherished family members.
He is predeceased by his parents, parents in-law (Henry and Lorraine Oginsky), and step-mother Ada Rivette. He was also predeceased by his siblings Larry Wilcox and Sharon (Wilcox) Johnson.
Ed graduated from Flint Northern High School in 1959. His life’s work was farming, and he took great pride and pleasure in working the very same land his grandparents once worked.
To support his farming habit, he was employed as Skilled Trades at General Motors (Fisher Body I and Buick) for thirty-nine years, retiring as a UAW member in 2000. Ed was an active member in many community organizations including Big Brothers and the Shiawassee County Historical Society. He also served as a Venice Township trustee for twelve years.
Ed was a patient, loving, level-headed man who, above all, valued spending time with his family. He loved farming with his children and grandchildren and enjoyed Sunday morning pancakes with his rambunctious crew of grand babies. He loved to visit neighborhood farmers while doing his daily crop tours and was a friend and confidant to many. He was a technology geek, a really good kolache baker, and Hungarian sausage maker. Ed was always supportive of local FFA and 4H programs, and he enjoyed visiting the Shiawassee County Fair each August. Ed’s absence will certainly be felt by all those who knew and loved him.
Family will be receiving visitors at Nelson House Funeral Home, Owosso, on Sunday, April 29 from 3pm - 8pm. His daughter, Amy Murphy, will be officiating a remembrance service at Nelson House on Monday, April 30 at 11am with a luncheon to follow at D’Mar Banquet and Conference Center in Owosso.
The family asks that contributions be made in Ed’s honor to any local charities that support children or youth agricultural programs. |
