BROWN, Dianna Lee. - of Swartz Creek, age 73, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 25, 2024. She passed away peacefully with her son Derek by her side. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 1, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 11110 Saginaw St, Mt. Morris, MI 48458, with Rev. Fr. Roy Horning officiating. Interment immediately following the Funeral Mass at Calvary Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive visitors at the O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Clio on Monday, September 30, from 5 - 8PM and Tuesday at the church from 10AM until the time of the Funeral Mass.
Dianna was born on June 15, 1951, in Sault Ste. Marie, MI, the daughter of Donna and the late Tony Gilbert. For 25 years, she worked as a Dental Hygienist, later working for Flint Public Schools as a Health Advocate. She was always a teacher at heart and enjoyed working as a Red Cross Instructor. For the past 10 years, Dianna found fulfillment teaching children as an elementary school substitute teacher for Swartz Creek Community Schools. Dianna was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the St. Mary’s Emmanuel Prayer Group for many years in Mt. Morris. She had the heart of a servant, always seeking to help others, especially caring for her parents. Not only did this include family, but extended to the many friends she made along life’s journey. Her greatest joy was her son Derek. She selflessly devoted herself to raising him as a single parent and was proud to see the wonderful husband and father he became.
She is survived by her mother Donna Gilbert, her beloved son, Derek (Melissa) Brown of Midland, MI, her three granddaughters Lillian, Ashley and Gwendolyn, her brothers: Fred (Rose) Gilbert, Frank (Teresa) Gilbert, Tony (Barb) Gilbert, Al Gilbert, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, including her lifelong friend Lisa Christner. Dianna was preceded in death by: Father, Tony Gilbert; Nephew, Jeff Gilbert.
As an expression of sympathy, flowers may be sent to O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Clio. Contributions to the Emmanuel Prayer Group at St. Mary's Catholic Church are also welcome.
