ROSE, Jean M. -- Age 84, of Swartz Creek passed away peacefully on June 16, 2016 surrounded by her family after a fall last week. She had eighty-four wonderful years, leaving us at 12:55 p.m., almost to the minute of her birth! Services will be held at 3PM Saturday, June 18 at the Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road, Swartz Creek. Family will receive guests from 12PM until the time of the service. A private interment will be scheduled at a later date. She is preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Earl Robert Rose, and her eldest son, Robert Earl. Surviving to miss her are daughter Lyn (Bryan) Shiffler, son Stephen (Peggy) Rose, "other" brother Jeffery (Kathy) Gulick; grandchildren Venessa Keesler, Stephen (Heather) Rose II, Kirby (Deron) Nardo; and great-grandchildren Rose and JJ Keesler, Tre and Eva Rose, and a future baby Nardo in October.
Jean Marilyn Hawley was born June 16, 1932 in Detroit, Michigan, to Irene and Bert Hawley. She attended school in Detroit and South Lyon, and married Earl Robert Rose on October 29, 1949 at Pinebrook Farm. She has lived in many homes from East Lansing (GO SPARTANS!) to the Detroit area, Ovid, Holly (with a stop in Tempe, Arizona in between) and finally in Swartz Creek since 1977.
Always a mom first, she was employed by State Bank and Citizen's Bank until her retirement. She has been MSU's biggest fan all these years (GO GREEN!), with Spartan basketball as her favorite (football broke her heart). Her granddog is even named Sparty! She and Earl traveled worldwide for Youth for Understanding's Michigan Chorale for several years throughout Europe and South America. She loved traveling, good times with her girlfriends through the Caribbean, and spent March in Scottsdale, Arizona with her daughter.
In her free time, Jean loved to read, do crosswords and scratch lottery tickets. When she could, casino slot machines were always fun. She kept wonderful written correspondence with her family and friends. Jean's home was often the entertainment center for holidays and special occasions. She attended many a recital, concert, open house, graduation, shower, and wedding throughout the generations--all special to her family. In the last 10 years, she enjoyed the daily visits from her son Stephen along with spoiling Sparty the dog with treats. Those desiring to send a contribution in lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to your local hospice in Jean's name.
