MIELKE, Ronald Lee – Of Flushing, age 75, beloved husband of Joanna Mae (Bennett), was taken into the arms of Jesus on Thursday, January 19, 2012 at Genesys Hospice Care Center, Goodrich. During his last months and days, Ron was surrounded by the love and prayers of his family and friends. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 24, 2012 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Pastor Glenn Gardner officiating. Friends may share their condolences with the family from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, January 23, 2012 at the funeral home. Ron was born in Fremont, Ohio on July 30, 1936. He received an Associates in Arts and Religion at Kentucky Mountain Bible Institute and continued his education at Marion College, Marion, Indiana to complete a Bachelors of Arts. Ron was a pastor for two years at a Methodist Church, and then taught school for eight years in Fairmount, IN. His family moved to Michigan in 1967, where Ron changed careers to work in manufacturing and warehousing. Ron attended Central Church of the Nazarene for the past 12 years. When his family first moved to the Flint area, they attended Brown Street Wesleyan Church.
Ron enjoyed fishing, hunting, vegetable and flower gardening, morel mushroom hunting, and attending or watching sports on TV. His pride and joy were his family. Throughout his lifetime, Ron touched many lives with his giving heart and sense of humor. He enjoyed sharing garden vegetables, flowers, candy, a fresh catch of salmon, or a bag of morel mushrooms. He frequently mingled a little light-hearted humor into his everyday interactions with almost everyone he met. Cherishing his memory are his wife, of more than 51 years, Joanna Mae (Bennett) Mielke; his children, Steve (Diane) Mielke,
Marta (Jim) Bentoski, Ben (Teresa) Mielke and Amy (Denis) Hannigan; his grandchildren, Chad Bentoski, Tricia (Keith) Kuipers, Brooke Olmsted, Sarah (Ryan) Anderson, April (Michael) Jager, Angela (Kevin) Rienks, Ben Stark, Shannon Mielke and Daniel Mielke; great-grandchildren, Jenna, Cole, Julia, Hailey, Emily and Daelene;
his sisters, Janet Short and Mary (Paul) Toeppe; his brother, David (Connie) Mielke;
his brother-in-law, Keith Bennett; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rheinhart Mielke and Evelyn (Kocher) Mielke and his great-grandson, Jack Kuipers. The family would like to express appreciation to the Durand Senior Care & Rehab Center and the Genesys Hospice Care Center for their special care.
