Bravender, Doris, age 85, of Flushing, died Saturday, January 18, 2020, at Woodhaven Senior Community. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, January 23, 2020, at United Methodist Church of Swartz Creek. Dr. Gary Glanville will officiate. A private burial will be at Sunset Hills Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at Rossell Funeral Home and 10 a.m. Thursday at the church until the time of the service. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society or the Alzheimer’s Association.
Doris was born in Flint, Michigan on May 11, 1934, the daughter of Duane and Marion (Hempstead) Smith. Doris and Thomas Bravender were united in marriage on March 20, 1954. He preceded her in death in 1990. Doris worked at Buick Main Office, Mott Foundation, Bell Telephone, and Hurley Hospital. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Swartz Creek. Doris enjoyed playing Bridge, spending the day shopping with her sisters, and going to lunch after church with the Arby’s Girls. She was a volunteer at McLaren-Flint Auxiliary, working in the gift shop.
Doris leaves to cherish her memory, her son, Russ (Toni) Bravender; grandchildren, Travis (Marlena) Bravender, Leigh Ann (Jim) Odom; great-grandchildren, Iris and Charlie; sisters, Marion Woodbury, Ruth Brown; step-sister, Carol McCann; and many special nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Bravender; sons, Steve and Phil Bravender; and daughter-in-law, Judy Bravender.
