BARTHOLOMEW, GARRETT JEAN (Mug) age 94, of Burton, died Sunday, September, 4, 2016 at the Genesee Care Center. Funeral Services will be 11:00 A.M. Thursday, September 8, 2016 at the Hill Funeral Home, 11723 S. Saginaw St., Grand Blanc, MI. Pastor Jeremy Peters officiating. Interment at Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. Garrett was born May 24, 1922 in Flint Michigan to parents, Benjamin Franklin and Matilda E. (Musk) Bartholomew. He attended Flint Central High School, class of 1940. He was united in marriage to Sarah Isabelle Alston daughter of John and Mora Alston of Kosciusko, Mississippi on January 10, 1944 in Starkville, Mississippi. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Army and Air Corps in the U.S.A. and Iceland (1940-1945). Military citation and awards included E.T.O., American Defense, Victory Medal, Bombardier Wings as Bombardier, USAF. He was a member of UAW Local 581, retiring from Fisher Body #1 in June, 1987 after 24 years of service. Other places of employment included US Postal Service and Lifsey Distributing Company in Flint until 1964. He was a Master Mason, in Flint Masonic Lodge #23, F. & A.M. and member of Court Street United Methodist Church in Flint, Michigan. He is survived by 2 children, Garrett (Dolores) Jr., Sarah M. Walder (Russell Stoneback); 2 grandchildren Christine (Jeffrey) Schewe, Mary (Brian) LaPier; 5 great-grandchildren, Tanner and Mason Schewe, and Nolan, Blake, and Natalie LaPier; nephew Robert Benjamin (Linda) Bartholomew, niece Kerry (David) Helton, niece Melody Bartholomew; great-nieces & nephews, Julie (Richard) Schrot, Karen (Michael) Mitchell, Ryan (Jennie) Bartholomew, Audry (Richard) Hill, Pamela (Peter) Seiler, Hannah and Kate Mitchell, Sadie, Henry, and Abram Hill, Evan Seiler; cousins Ruth Ann (Frank) Rogers, and Elmer (Phyllis) Darnell Jr.; special neighbor and friend Lee Turner, friends Jan and Chris Staehli. He was preceded in death by parents, wife Sarah, Brother Robert Bartholomew and sister-in-law Eleanor (Miller), Son-in-law Paul Joseph Walder, and Nephew Christopher J. Bartholomew. The family would like to thank extended family members, the members of Court Street United Methodist Church, friends, caregivers, and everyone who offered prayers and support. Memorial contributions may be made to the Court St. United Methodist Church or the Genesee County Humane Society.
