James William Shenck, D.D.S., P.C., 69, of Lapeer and Burton, died Sunday October 1, 2017. He was born December 14, 1947 in Warren, PA to parents Harry and Elizabeth (Miller) Shenck. Jim proudly served in the United States Air Force. He began his marriage and life long unity with Anne L. Lucas on December 1, 1973 in Pleasant Valley, PA.
Dr. Jim had many degrees and certificates over the years; highest of which was a Doctorate of Medical Dentistry. He has passionately owned and operated the James W. Shenck, D.D.S., P.C. Dentistry for Children office in Burton, since Nov. 18, 1978 through present day. Professionally, he was one of the good guys; in business to care for and truly help people, not for a high volume impersonal experience. Dr. Jim had a sincere interest in his patients and their lives, almost considering them like family. He has been a member of many professional clubs, organizations as well as special interest clubs throughout the years. Dr. Shenck was considered an avid car enthusiast; from antiques, classics, specialty to current models – always showing a preference to maintain historic, stock originality. A “curator” of sorts; to many diverse interests of the past. His family knew a do-it-yourself side, to a point of micro-managing anyone helping his cause. Dr. Jim’s federally registered house is a great example of all that has been said; he exhausted many hours researching and taking pride in maintaining its historic registration, with great detail. Above much else, Jim had a good sense of humor, devoted husband and family man and known to them as: “not a simple man but he lived a simple life.”
Mr. Shenck is survived by his wife of 43 years: Anne Shenck, children: Matthew (Marcy) Shenck of Otsego; Julia (fiancé, Tim Purdue) Shenck of Dryden and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
The family has entrusted cremation to Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Lapeer. A memorial gathering, open to everyone; will be from 1:00-4:00PM Saturday November 4, 2017 at his office, James W. Shenck, DDS, PC Dentistry for Children, 1259 N. Belsay Rd., Burton. Interment will eventually take place in Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly.
