PONIERS, David T. – Age 66, of Flushing, died Wednesday, August 22, 2012 at his home. David was born April 6, 1946 in Detroit. He graduated from Wayne State University with a Bachelors Degree in Journalism. He was a member of St. Robert Catholic Church and St. Mary Catholic Church in Charlevoix. David was Sports Editor for The Flint Journal where he was well known for the Out-Pick Poniers Football Contest. He retired in 2004. David was a member of the Baseball Writers of America, Flint Rotisserie Baseball League and former board member of the Greater Flint Sports Hall of Fame. Surviving are his wife of 44 years Mary Lou (Avery); children, Kelly (Patrick) Weber, Kristin Poniers, Keith (Rebecca) Poniers; grandchildren, Megan Poniers, Teddy and Luke Weber; sisters, Marcia (David) Rysztak, Andrea Poniers (Leni Wilsmann). He was preceded in death by his parents Theodore and Clothilda (Plaza) Poniers. Friends may visit the family from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Reigle Funeral Home. A Vigil Service will be held 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Monday, August 27, 2012 at St. Robert Catholic Church, 310 N. Cherry St., Flushing, MI.
