Spodney, Idell of Flushing, age 90, died Sunday, September 9, 2018, at her home. Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Friday, September 14, 2018, at St. Robert Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Robert Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Thursday at Rossell Funeral Home and 10 a.m. Friday at the church until the time of the Mass. A Rosary will be prayed 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
Idell was born in Flint, Michigan on October 10, 1927, the daughter of George and Blanche (Bowen) Lamrock. She married Frank Spodney on November 9, 1946, in Flushing. He preceded her in death on March 6, 2009 after 64 years of marriage. Idell was a longtime member of St. Robert Catholic Church and a member of the Flushing Senior Center where she enjoyed line dancing. She worked as a nurse for many years at Fostrian Manor in Flushing. Idell enjoyed gardening, quilting, and making teddy bears and dolls for Whaley Children’s Center. She loved celebrating holidays and family gatherings. Her grandchildren and especially her great-grandchildren, Olivia, Nathan, Maddy, Alissa, Logan, and Khloe were the light of her life.
Idell is survived by her daughter, Crystal “Sue” Whitcomb of Durand; grandchildren, Cory and wife Jamie Whitcomb of Alabama, Michael and wife Suzanne Whitcomb of Flint, Mary and husband Mike Gorton of Swartz Creek, Debbie and Robiin Spodney; many loved great-grandchildren; sisters, Becky, Barb and Kate. She was also survived by her sons, John and Michael Spodney; son-in-law, Dan Whitcomb.
