Gilmet, Constance “Connie” of Flushing, age 95, passed away Sunday, November 24, 2019, at her home. A celebration of life will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Rossell Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Flushing Cemetery. Visitation will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home until the time of the service at 1 p.m. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.
Connie was born in Flint, Michigan on September 26, 1924, the daughter of Bernard and Carrie (Sisco) Hammond. She married Bernard “Joe” Gilmet on November 11, 1944. He preceded her in death on September 24, 2001. Connie worked at Fisher Body while Joe was serving in the Navy during WWII. After the war, they settled in Flushing, Michigan, where they started their family raising six children. Connie became a full time, stay-at-home mother. She lived a busy, full life with her children, later enjoying 16 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Connie enjoyed many hobbies throughout her life including, gardening, sewing, golfing, stained glass, playing the piano, and reading, but her greatest passion was always dancing. Her and Joe were members of the Road Runners Dance Club for many years. Some time after Joe’s passing, she met her new dance partner and dear friend, Ray, and together they continued dancing at various senior centers. Their shared their last dance together on her birthday at the Burton Senior Center where everyone helped her celebrate turning 95.
Connie is survived by her children, Kathy (Allan) Carr, Cindy (Barry) Pratt, Daniel Gilmet, Jeanine (Robin) Peel, Douglas (Cathy) Gilmet; 15 grandchildren, Allan Jr., Tony, Andrea, Abbie, Jessica, Joelle, Jaime, Kelsey, Carrie, Paul, Nikki, Joseph, Samantha, Allison, Jackie; and 22 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe; son, David; and grandson, Jason.
