Jack was born in Flint, MI on July 12, 1933, son of the late Joseph and Loretta (Tice) Quinn. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1954-1956, embodying the values of honor and duty. He went on to marry his cherished wife, Diana Crandall, on February 26, 1964. Together, they built a life filled with love, adventure, and laughter. Jack retired from Buick in 1990 after 30 years of dedicated service. Yet, his passion for life only grew stronger with his retirement. In 1985, he opened Kiteman Jack's Kite Shop in East Tawas, MI. For 36 years, his store became a hub of joy, as Jack shared his love for flying stunt kites with hundreds of visitors and locals. He was a constant presence by the bay, teaching people of all ages the art of kite flying, spreading laughter, and creating memories that will be cherished for years to come. Known affectionately as the "bike-fix-it-man" of East Tawas, Jack also became a trusted figure in the community, always ready to lend a hand and keep bikes rolling smoothly for friends and neighbors. If you couldn’t find him flying kites, you’d be sure to spot him in his garage, a cigar between his lips, fixing bikes and bringing smiles to those in need of his skills. Jack’s heart was also filled with a deep love for Lionel model trains, earning him the nickname "Papa Chooch" from his adoring grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His love for trains, coupled with his patient, kind, and fun-loving spirit, made him an unforgettable presence in the lives of his family. Jack’s warmth, generosity, and unwavering passion for life left an indelible mark on everyone who knew him. He will be deeply missed, but his memory will live on in the soaring kites, the smoothly pedaled bikes, and the joyful train tracks that will forever remind us of the man who filled our lives with so much love and laughter.
Jack is survived by his wife of 61 years, Diana Quinn; 3 children, Joe (Deb) Quinn, Bill (Denise) Crandall and LeaAnn (Greg) Frank; 6 grandchildren, Brady (Monica) Crandall, Brooke (Eli) Sager, Brianna (Ryan) Sova, Lauren (Gavin Barnes) Frank, Randy Quinn and Joey Lucas; 4 great-grandchildren; special friends, Cody and Cathy Armbruster, Shawn “Kiteboy” Smith and Sue “Kitegirl” Stratton; many other loving family members and good friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Loretta Quinn; daughter, Carmel Lucas and 4 siblings.
