Raymond Lowe Thompson, age 85 of Onekama, died Saturday September 3, 2011 at the Manistee County Medical Care Facility.
He was born April 17, 1926 in Flint the son of the late Raymond and Margaret (Comfort) Thompson. He was a graduate of Beecher High School in Flint with the Class of 1944. He served in the U.S. Army Field Artillery Division, earning a Purple Heart during World War II. On April 26, 1958 Ray married Donna May Hoose in Flint. He was employed as an Electrical Engineer with Consumers Power Company in Flint for 40 years, retiring in 1985.
Ray was a member of the DAV, VFW and the Eagles. He enjoyed talking and reading about WWII, going bowling and playing golf.
He is survived by his wife, Donna Thompson, along with his wonderful family of sisters & brothers-in-law, nieces & nephews and great-nieces & nephews.
He was also preceded in death by 2 sisters, Fran and Helen.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service with military honors will be held at 7:00 P.M. on Monday September 12, 2011 at the American Legion Hall in Swartz Creek with Hank Messing, Hospice Chaplain, officiating. The family will receive friends at the hall beginning at 6:00 P.M. Final interment will take place at a later date.
The family has entrusted funeral arrangements to Oak Grove Cremation Center in Manistee.
