SOUTHWARD, Carl L. – of Davison, formerly of Ft. Myers, FL, age 97, passed away November 16, 2017 at the Cottage of Davison. Private services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice.
Carl was born in Florence, AL, son of the late Lyle and Cornelia (Wallace) Southward. He married his sweetheart, Betty Stefaniak on May 11, 1946 in Flint, MI. Carl proudly served his country in the U. S. Army during WWII. He retired as a Tool and Die Foreman from GM. Carl and Betty raised their family in Flint, MI and he was very active in Holy Rosary Catholic Church as well as serving on the board of education for Kearsley Schools. He was also a member of the Davison Knights of Columbus.
Carl is survived by his children, Dave (Carol), Dennis, Nancy Kostka, Kathy, Mike (Jeanne), Anne (Doug) Lape, Mary (Chris) Allard; grandchildren, David (Geoff), Ryan, Sean, Katie, Daniel, Michael, Adam, Matthew, Dylan, Amanda, John; great grandchildren, Piper and Kingston. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Betty Lou; two sons, David and Timothy; daughter-in-law, Elizabeth; sister, Edith and brother, Ellis. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Heartland Hospice and the staff at the Cottage of Davison. Carl will be remembered as a gentlemen: compassionate, tolerant and fair; a loving father and devoted husband. A tuneful whistler with a capacity for silliness that was legendary among his family.
