WARDEN, Richard M. – Of Flint, age 90, passed away Tuesday, August 1, 2017 at Genesys Regional Medical Center.
Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 23, 2017 at Our Risen Lord Lutheran Church, G-4040 Lapeer Road, Burton, Pastor Sue Lidum officiating.
Visitation 10 a.m. Saturday at the church until the time of the service.
Cremation has taken place and there will be a burial of the cremated remains at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly at a later date.
Those desiring may make contributions to Our Risen Lord Lutheran Church or the Humane Society of Genesee County.
Richard was born in Wellsville, Ohio on November 27, 1926, the son of Freida E. (Wahl) and Benjamin F. Warden.
He graduated from Flint Central High School.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1943-1946; with Naval Amphibious Forces during World War II in South and West Pacific.
He participated in Landing Marines at Iwo Jima, Okinawa, Yokasuka and Nagasaki. His rank at discharge was Coxswain.
On August 23, 1947 he married Kathleen J. Lee. They celebrated 60 years of marriage.
Mr. Warden retired from the Flint Fire Department, as Battalion Chief after 27 years of service. He served 25 years with the American Red Cross as a Volunteer Instructor in advanced first aid and instructor trainer.
He loved life. He enjoyed traveling, meeting new people, nature, hunting, skiing, photography and carpentry.
He could tell a good story and was a good listener. He was a member of Michigan Duck Hunters Association for many years.
Mr. Warden was a member of the National Ski Patrol System and served on the Mt. Holly Ski Patrol for 25 years, during which he held the title of Director twice.

Surviving are daughters, Marsha L.(Rex) Graff of Traverse City,
Kimberly A. (Richard) Bodette of Flint and Richard S. of Austin, Texas;
He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen; two sisters, Donna J. Manning and Sally A. Whaley.
