Fleming, Mrs. Lela “Lonie” age-69 passed away Sunday January 11, 2015 at McLaren-Flint. Funeral services will be held at 12noon Saturday January 24, 2015 from the Heavenly Host Full Gospel Baptist Church 2202 W. Dartmouth St. Rev. Derrick A. Aldridge officiating, Eld. LeQuin R. Williams Host Pastor. Interment River Rest Cemetery G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 11am for visitation. Mrs. Fleming now reposes in the Chapel of the Martin J. Banks Funeral Home and may be viewed until 6pm this evening.
Mrs. Lela Fleming, affectionately known as “Lonie”, was born on November 23, 1945 in Newton, Mississippi, the daughter of Milton and Alice (Salter) McSwain. She married Willie C. Fleming, the love of her life and joined Foss Avenue Baptist Church where she served on the Usher board for several years. In 2006, she joined 2nd Chance Church under the leadership of Pastor Derrick A. Aldridge, where she also served on the Usher Board ministry.
She leaves to cherish her memory 4 daughters; Barbara (Alby) Winfrey of Flint, MI, Alice (Willie) Riley of Cypress, TX, Lisa (Johnnie) Montgomery of Ellenwood, GA and Serena (Albert Young) of Flint, MI; daughter-in-law, Curtina Fleming of Swartz Creek, MI; 16 grandchildren, Jwan Jordan, De’Quan Fleming, Albert III, Willie and Amarion Young, Aaron Walker of Flint, Tashia Barton, Duwane and Diavione Montgomery of Ellenwood, GA, Darius Powers of Cypress, TX, Shalisa Young of Missouri City, TX, Mario, Mariya, and Maliyah Murphy of Chattanooga, TN, Zah’mier and Zamaria Fleming of Swartz Creek, MI; 1 great-grand daughter, Nasjia Barton of Ellenwood, GA, 2 great-grand sons, JaQuavis Young of Flint, MI and Armel Powers of Cypress, TX; Father and mother-in-law, Grant and Nettie Fleming of Mt. Morris, MI; 1 brother-in-law, George (Shirley) Jones of Huntsville, AL; God-daughter, Alvita Rouser of Flint, MI. A host of cousins, nieces and nephews to include special friends, Shirley Atkins, Jamie Williams, James (Mildrene) Rouser, Bob (Kathy) Holbrook, Betty Barnett, Richard Dodd and Vera Dixon of Nashville, TN.
Mrs. Fleming was preceded in death by her husband; Willie C. Fleming; son, Mario Fleming; twin grand- daughters, Zaniya and Zeoni Fleming; parents, Milton and Alice McSwain; 2 sisters, Lee Jewel Chapman and Edna Fitts; 5 brothers, Jimmy, Marvin, William and Robert McSwain; 2 sisters-in-law, Eddie Mae Harris and Hanna Jones; 3 brothers-in-law, Charles Jones, Richard Walker and John Lee Chapman.
