Age 73, passed away Saturday, December 7, 2019 at Ascension Genesys Hospital in Grand Blanc, MI. Family hour 10:00 AM with the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Memorial Service conducted under the auspices of Omicron Rho Chapter at 10:15 AM Monday, December 16, 2019 at Grace Emmanuel Baptist Church, 3502 Lapeer Rd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM, Pastor Dr. Marvin A. Jennings Sr., officiating. Interment River Rest Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the Church 10:00 AM Monday. Mr. Marshall will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 10:00 AM-6:00 PM Sunday, with family present to receive friends from 4:00 PM-6:00 PM.
Mr. Freddie Lee Marshall was born June 9, 1946 in Brinkley, Arkansas to Neomia and Leroy Marshall. Freddie was the oldest of the three children, Rodger and Patricia. Freddie & his siblings were afforded the opportunity to live in many states because their father made a career out of the Military (Air Force). However, they would return to Brinkley every summer to visit their beloved grandmother, Amanda Fox, as well as other close relatives living in the area which was called the "West End". He loved and cherished these special times with his family and would often reminisce about the good times he had during his visits. During his junior year, he returned to Brinkley to complete his high school education at Marian Anderson. Freddie graduated from Marian Anderson High School in 1965 where he was very active in several sports. He particularly loved football and was the quarterback for his team. He also loved playing basketball and participated in both sports. Upon graduation from High School, he initially attended school at Shorter African Methodist Episcopal College located in North Little Rock, Arkansas. He completed two years of college at this institution receiving an Associate Degree in History and Social Studies. Freddie continued his education at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (U.A.P.B.), formerly known as Arkansas Agricultural Mechanical & Normal College (A.M. & N.). He completed his last two years there graduating with a Bachelor of Arts Degree majoring in History and Social Studies with a minor in Political Science in 1970. Some of his extracurricular activities while at U.A.P.B. included: History Club, Viking Bi Phi, Speech and Drama Club in which he won first place in an Arkansas State Speech and State Competition. Post-Graduation from U.A.B.P. – He studied courses in Business Administration from Michigan State University and GMI (Now Kettering University). While at U.A.P.B. during Freddie’s Junior year, he met & fell in love with his future wife, Jean Ford, at a James Brown Concert on Campus. From this Union, five children were born, Freddie II, Felecia, Rochanda, Jason and Crystal. Upon graduation from U.A.P.B., Freddie worked briefly for Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. (Salesman) and was later hired on the General Motors College Graduate and Training Program for Management. During his 20-year employment history with Flint Truck & Bus, a division of General Motors Corporation, he worked in various capacities including, Skilled Trades & College Graduates Supervision, Personnel and Labor Relations, and Suggestions Coordinator. He also worked for Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home in Flint, Michigan which he enjoyed immensely. Freddie was a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated- Omicron Rho Chapter (Flint, Michigan). 10th District initiated in 1972, Charter Member of the Flint Inner City Lions Club, Past City Wide Advisory Council Member with a Proclamation Recognition from the Council, Past Board Member of the Academy of Flint Charter School, Past President of the Flint Pan-Hellenic Council, Omega Man of the Year (Twice), Past Basileus Omicron Rho Chapter, Past National President of Suggestions for General Motors, Member of the Black Caucus and NAACP. Freddie Worked in numerous political campaigns. Freddie had several hobbies that he enjoyed such as, Master Ballroom Dance Instructor, Golf/Tennis/Basketball, he loved to work out at the YMCA, Volunteer Deputy Sheriff under Sheriff Joe Wilson's Administration. He also loved plays and entertainment from the Floyd J. McCree Theatre. Freddie accepted Christ a very young age, he joined his grandmother’s church, Brown A.M.E. (African Methodist Episcopal) in Brinkley, Arkansas. He was very active in many activities there. Freddie later became a member of Grace Emmanuel Baptist located in Flint, Michigan Mr. Freddie Lee Marshall leaves to cherish his memory: wife, Jean Marshall; 3 sons and 3 daughters, Freddie Marshall II, both of Flint, Bryant Marshall of Dallas, TX, Felecia Marshall-Herron (Frederic) of Farmington Hills, MI, Rochanda Marshall, Jason Marshall and Crystal Marshall (James); grandchildren; Trevon Marshall, Dion Marshall, KeMonte’ Byrd, all of Flint, Brea Marshall of Dallas, TX, Roshay Timmons, Halaya Herron, both of Farmington Hills, MI, Dominique Marshall and Shonbria McMillian both of Flint; brother, Rodger (Patricia) Marshall, all of Flint; sister, Patricia (Lawrence) Bowman of Louisville, KY; uncles, Ulysses Marshall; sisters-in-law, Joyce (Michael) Meeks, Debra (James) Ford, all of El Dorado, AR and Dian (Rev. Ralph) Massey of Tyler, TX; brothers-in-law, Norris (Dosie) Ford, Billy Wayne (Candi) Ford, all of El Dorado, AR, Minister Glen Ford of Portland, OR, Bobby (Liz) Ford of Tacoma, WA and Tony Ford of Tyler, TX; Kortney Bowman, Chanelle Bowman, both of Louisville, KY, Lori Mayo of Las Vegas, NV, Victoria Diane Massey, Rebecca Massey, Rolanda Massey, all of Tyler, TX and Lafela (Jesse) Jackson-Pitts of El Dorado, AR; nephews, Sherman Raglon of Las Vegas, NV and Larry Smith of Wichita, KS; a host of other nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends including special friends, Lawrence E. Moon, Clydell Duncan, Bobbie Kirby, Donald Brown, Rev. K. D. Yarbrough, Verdell Duncan, Alvin and Brenda Parker, Lonnie Urquhart and Tony Caldwell. Mr. Marshall was preceded in death by his parents, Leroy and Neomia Marshall; grandparents, Amanda and Lincoln Fox; aunts, Willie Mae Fox, Ethel Louise Fox and Lauraline Marshall; uncle, Ulyses Marshall; nephew, Lawrence Bowman II; a host of other aunts, uncles and cousins. The Family would like to express special thanks to Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated, Omicron Rho Chapter of Flint, Medilodge of Grand Blanc staff (Dr. Sarin and Dr. Nadar), Ascension Genesys Hospital (Progressive Respiratory Care Unit/PRCU), Pastor Dr. Marvin A. Jennings Sr. and the Grace Emmanuel Church family, Grace Deliverance Church Of God In Christ (Pastor Paul Richmond & Missionary Rena Richmond), Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home & staff, Rodger & Patricia Marshall, and Jesse McKelry. Freddie always had a marvelous personality and a beautiful smile. He is greatly loved by many and will be tremendously missed by all who knew him.
