BRENT, JESSE LEE - Of Lewiston, Michigan, age 77 passed away on Sunday, March 23, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Memorial visitation will be held 12 p.m. – 8 p.m. Friday, March 28, 2025 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Elk County No Kill Shelter in Atlanta, MI; please put in memory of Jesse and Buddy Brent on the envelope; or perform a random act of kindness in his memory.
Jesse was a New Years Baby, born to Clarence and Wilma Brent in Malden, Missouri on January 1st 1948. Jesse moved to Michigan in 1950.

He attended Flushing and Swartz Creek schools. Jesse was a Marine in San Diego in 1969, leaving after 4 months with a medical honorably discharge.

In 1969 he married Bernice Burnett. Together they raised two girls and started their dream restaurant BJ’s family restaurant which they named after themselves.


While we lost our most beloved dad. Jesse was a deeply beloved father, husband, uncle, cousin, brother, and friend.

He has been a rock to many, a master at craftsmanship and always there to talk and listen. There was so much more to him than just a dad, though to us that was his greatest role. He had a strong work ethic and he was very generous. Not only will he be missed, but the stories he told.
Jesse was passionate about woodworking, playing with his dog, going to casinos, yard work and going to antique stores. In his younger years he loved to scuba dive and travel. He loved growing vegetables and fruit trees, playing the lottery, and the thrill of gambling at casino, camping and taking cross country road trips. These hobbies provided him with much enjoyment and fulfillment throughout his life.

Jesse worked at the Chevrolet V-8 Engine Plant retiring after 30 years. He retired in 1998 and met his wife, Beth Young.
Together they moved to Arizona for a few years eventually coming back to Michigan. Jesse Married Beth on March 3, 2005 in Las Vegas. Together they raised their cat Tom-toes and dog Buddy.

He is survived by his wife, Beth Brent; as well as his children, Debbie Kellogg (Quentin) Kellogg and Julie(John)Tokar; stepson, Johnny Shuck. His grandchildren, Joshua(Sabrina) Wood, Faith Brent, Izaak Kellogg, Izabelle Kellogg and Oliver Shuck; one great-grandchild, Callan Wood; sisters, Joyce Brent and Donna (Tom)Williams; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Wilma Brent; brothers, Danny, Jimmy and Randy Brent; his beloved dog and best friend Buddy.

He loved dogs so much. He will be missed by his grand-dogs Ava Kellogg, Dude Tokar and Gus Wood.
