WISHART, John William “Jack” – He was 97 at his passing on Thursday, April 16, 2020, he lost his battle fighting the Covid Virus at Wellbridge of Fenton.
A Private family service has been held with burial at Flint Memorial Park.
A memorial service will take place at a later date, when things settle due to the Covid 19 Virus.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or the Humane Society of Genesee County.
John was born in Paris Ontario on March 17, 1923.
Dad graduated from Flint Central High School.
Dad will be remembered for his gentleness and his wonderful sense of humor. There never was a dull moment around him!
Hockey was his world. It was that Canadian blood! He played hockey up until his late 50’s.
He was given the nickname “Scooter” by a group of French Canadian Doctors, who were doing their residencies in Flint.
He was invited to play on their hockey travel team. He was 40 years old at that time, and they were in their 20’s.
They gave dad that nickname because he was such a fast skater.
Dad skated until he was 80!
His brother, Jim Wishart would drive up from Alma every Friday to skate with dad and the seniors at the ice rink on Elms Road.
He worked for General Motors at the Tank Plant in Grand Blanc for 30 years.
My dad lived with me for the last 11 years. He was my travel buddy. I took him everywhere and we had a blast! Not many 90 year olds would stay in an airbnb!
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elsie and John Wishart; his
brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Virginia Wishart;
wives, Frances Dawson Wishart and Betty Conner.
He lovingly leaves behind his daughter, Cynthia Wishart Jones;
granddaughters, Heather Jones and Kristin Jones Galea;
great-grandsons, Spencer and Ethan Galea;
niece and nephew, Kim and Mike Wishart; and many loved cousins.
Also leaving behind his cherished step families and their children.
