Joseph John Chapko Jr.

Age 70 of Owosso passed away Saturday, May 18, 2019 at Sparrow Health Systems.

Funeral services will be held 11 am Wednesday, May 22, 2019 at Salem Lutheran Church with Pastor James Bare officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Nelson House Funeral Home on Tuesday from 1 PM to 3 PM and 7 PM to 9 PM.

Joseph was born September 26, 1948 in Owosso, the son of Joseph and Rita (Hinspeter) Chapko.

He attended Ovid-Elsie High School, graduated from Owosso High School, class of 1968 and proudly served in the United States Navy. Joseph was a member of Salem Lutheran Church, Shiawassee Conservation Club and served in the Shiawassee County Sheriff's Posse for more than 20 years. He enjoyed singing in the choir and playing golf in his men's league at Dutch Hollow and a couples' league with his wife.

Joseph married Carol Pauline Hein at Salem Lutheran Church on January 3, 1970.

He retired from General Motors after 34 years of service and served the area as a gunsmith for 10 years.

Joseph is survived by his wife, Carol; children Joseph (Lisa) Chapko III and Matthew Chapko; grandchildren Alyza and Heidi; sisters Cathy (Glen) Spencer, Joanna Chapko and Theresa Chapko; brother Jeffrey ; other loving family and friends.

He was predeceased by his parents and brother Fred Chapko.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Salem Lutheran Church.
