Sweers, Dorothy B. of Flint, age 91, a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, died Monday, December 22, 2014 at her home. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 3 p.m. Friday, December 26, 2014, at St. Robert Catholic Church, 310 N. Cherry St., Flushing. Fr. Roy Horning will officiate. Cremation will follow the Mass. Visitation will be 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday at Rossell Funeral Home. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the National MS Society or St. Robert Catholic Church.
Dorothy was born in Flint, MI on July 11, 1923, the daughter of John J. and Celia (Kujawa) Garstecke. She married Donald K. Sweers in Flushing on November 8, 1947. He preceded her in death on June 6, 2012.
Dorothy was a former country school teacher and then later worked as a teller at Genesee Merchants Bank for ten years and then as a clerk at McLaren Hospital for 17 years, retiring in 1987. She was a member of St. Robert Catholic Church, Flushing Sr. Center, Flushing Historical Society, Ladies Auxiliary to the Flushing VFW Post #5666, and McLaren Retirees.
Ruth is survived by her four children, Ruth and husband Lewis Bruman of West Branch, Dennis and wife Christine Sweers of Almont, David Sweers and Kathy of Pinconning, Keith and wife Marti Sweers of Fort Wayne, IN; six grandchildren, Jennifer and husband Kevin Boggs, Jaclyn and husband Pat Garl, Jessica and husband Mark Wright, and Dayna, Katie and Chelsea Sweers; six great-grandchildren; sister, Elizabeth Myers of Nashville, MI; brother, Donald Garstecke of Rochester Hills; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Bernard Garstecke; and brother-in-law, Dr. Thomas Myers. |
