LONG, Robert Edwin - Of Flint, age 93, died Saturday, June 15, 2019 at McLaren-Flint.
Funeral service will be held 12pm Saturday, June 22, 2019 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint.
Burial in Flint Memorial Park.
Visitation 2-8pm Friday and 10am Saturday until the time of the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association of Michigan or a charity of your choice.
Robert was born in Flint on June 14, 1926, the son of the late Frank and Gladys (Hill) Long. On November 12, 1949, he married Inez Briody in Bowling Green, Ohio. They were married 65 years before her passing on May 1, 2016. Robert graduated from Northern High School, Class of 1945. He served in the United States Army during World War II in Germany. Robert retired from General Motors Buick Division in Skilled Trades after 42 years of service.
Surviving are children, Betty J. Coon of Flint, Lois A. (Danny) Adamson of Flint, Donna J. Newsom (Ken Zintel) of Flint, Robert E. II (Ann) of Columbia, SC, and John W. of Inver Grove Heights, MN;
15 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren;
Siblings, Helen Evans of Florida, Frank (Sally) Long of Davison and Barbara Nellis of Flushing.
He was also preceded in death by his sister, Beatrice (Long) Kranz, brothers-in-law, Russell Kranz and Harold Evans, son-in-law, David Newsom and granddaughter-in-law, Melina (Thurmond) Coon.
