PACKARD-ROOD, Inez - Of Flint Township, formerly of Swartz Creek age 85, passed away Wednesday, July 1, 2020 at her home, after a hard-fought battle with leukemia and metastatic breast cancer.
Inez was born on October 29, 1934 in Tustin, Michigan, to Merle and Lottie (Raby) Ide. She was married to Charles Crossett Sr. in 1955, Edward Packard in 1974 and Owen Rood Jr. in 2003, all preceded her in death.
She raised and provide for 4 children working as a waitress/bartender at various upscale restaurants in the Flint area, The Country Squire, Cromer’s Fine Foods and The Shorthorn Steakhouse. Later she worked for McCormick’s Spices-and enjoyed referring to herself as a “Spice Girl”. She also served as treasurer at First Congregational Church of Durand, MI.
She enjoyed gardening-especially enjoyed tending to her roses, crossword puzzles and reading.
She was known to be a fabulous pie maker and an all-around great cook.
Inez and Owen enjoyed traveling all over the country, sightseeing, frequenting casinos, and making many friends along the way.
Inez is survived by 3 of her children, Georgia “Gigi” Crossett Idialu Swimmer of Flint, Linda Crossett of Flint Township and Charles (Cindy) Crossett of Lake Odessa, MI;
grandchildren, Jeremiah, Chris, Brian, Carrie, Corey, Chelsea and Austin;
and great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by sisters-in-law, Sandra Ide, Darlene Ide, Marilyn Crossett Dodds and Jean Crossett Myatt;
nieces, nephews and many dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Hercil, Bob, Leon and Kenny; sisters, Doris, Velma and Irene; son, David Crossett; grandson, Moe Crossett and granddaughter, Danelle Crossett.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at a later date.
Those desiring may make contributions to the American Cancer Society, or to a favorite charity in memory of Inez.
