Swift, Roy Richard - Age 98, of Flint Township, died April 23, 2019. Visitation will be held 1-6 PM Sunday, April 28 at Sharp Funeral Home & Cremation Center 6063 Fenton Rd. Flint. Services will be held 10AM Tuesday, April 30 at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly. Roy was born August 2, 1920. He graduated from Flint Central High School in 1938. Roy received his master’s degree from the University of Michigan in Music Education. Roy was a wonderful musician and played the trumpet in the U of M Marching Band. He had wonderful memories of playing in the Rose Bowl. Roy married Madeline Crane in New Buffalo in 1941. They celebrated 70 years together. He loved dancing with his sweetheart, especially at Dom Polski. He served four years in the Army during World War II in Central Europe and Okinawa. Roy was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Flint Lions Club, Flint Musicians Union and AC Spark Plug Golf League. He directed the AC Concert Band providing memorable concerts at the IMA Auditorium. He retired from personnel at AC in 1982. Roy enjoyed playing golf with his buddies at Genesee Hills. He loved to sink a tough putt! Left to cherish his memory is his daughter Janie (Robert) Frasier; grandson Mark (Melissa) Frasier; granddaughter Laura (Kenneth) Moore; brother Richard (Janet) Swift; five great grands, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son Charles and his wife, Madeline. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hartland Band Boosters, P.O.
