Passed away peacefully with family by his side, Friday February 14, 2020 at Brian’s House in Essexville, MI after a short illness; age 77 years. Harold was born on July 1, 1942, in Birch Run, MI at the homestead to the late Bernhard and Gladys (Riethmeier) Scharrer. He was married to Barbara Downing on November 7, 1964 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Frankenmuth, she survives him. Harold was employed by GM as a tool maker for 13 years until 1974. He then ran the family farm as long as his health allowed. Harold was a dedicated worker and took great pride in his family farm operation and loved to cut wood in his spare time. Harold was a member of St. Lorenz Lutheran Church. Harold was a dedicated family man and truly enjoyed spending time with his family.
Surviving besides his wife Barb are: four children Karyn (Mike) Buckley of Birch Run, MI, Robert (Kimberly) Scharrer of Birch Run, MI, Richard (Trish) Scharrer of Frankenmuth, MI, Kristine Scharrer (Scott Haley) of Royal Oak, MI; grandchildren Paige and fiancé Codi, Jack and friend Carlee, Shelby, Luke, Kaylee, Brendan, Grace and Ben; also nieces, nephew and special friends, the Jankowski family.
Funeral services will take place on Thursday, February 20, 2020 at 10:15 a.m. at Cederberg Funeral Home of Frankenmuth, 590 N. Franklin St. and 11:00 a.m. at St. Lorenz Lutheran Church. Rev. Shawn Fenske will officiate with burial between services in St. Lorenz Lutheran Cemetery. Harold’s family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Wednesday from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the prayer service. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to St. Lorenz Lutheran Church or Brian’s House, Essexville, MI.
