HOWELL, Weed (Dee) David - Of Flint, age 82, died Sunday, November 20, 2011 at Brian's House of Davison.
Funeral service will be held 12 Noon Friday, November 25, 2011 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint,
Pastor Thom VerWys and Pastor Frank Beck officiating.
Burial in Great Lakes National Cemetery, 12:30 p.m. Monday, November 28, 2011.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association and Fist Wesleyan Church. Visitation 2-8p.m. Wednesday and 5-8p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Weed was born in on September 3, 1929, the son of the late Weed and Anna Laura (Harris) Howell and the youngest of 7 children and was a resident of Flint since 1955 coming from West Virginia. He proudly served in the Korean Conflict during 1948-1954 Army Second Infantry Division and was a Master Sergeant when he was discharged. He was a recipient of two Purple Hearts and a Life Member Second Division Second Infantry Division Korean War Veterans Alliance and a Member of Korean War Branch. Weed was a VFW Post #4087 Life Member. Weed was employed 34 years for General Motors and was a member of UAW Local 659.Weed worked 30 years for the Flint Board Of Education. He ran the after schools activities for McKinley School, was an umpire for Blooper Ball and facilitated Volley Ball and Basketball. Weed was a member of First Wesleyan Church. He was past president of the Fenton Road Neighborhood Association All his grandchildren know him as Papaw. Surviving are wife, Geraldine (Jerri); son, John David and wife Cindy Howell; grandchildren, Adam Motes and wife Michelle, DeAnna and husband Chris Dach, Amy and husband Pat Morrish, Andrew and wife Krystle Howell; great-grandchildren, Maria, Emie, Serena, Katelynn, Nicholas, Zoe and Brady; former son-in-law, Al Motes; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 5 sisters, and 1 brother. Special thanks to Caretell Inns of Linden, Genesys NICU and Brian’s House.
