Sharon Ann (Reils) Treichel was born in Chicago Heights, Illinois on February 1, 1945 the eldest of 5 children born to Alvin & Dorothy (nee Wille) Reils. Sharon became a member of the Kingdom of God through the Sacrament of Holy Baptism on March 11, 1945. She made her promise of life-long faithfulness to her Savior at the time of her confirmation on April 14, 1957at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Country Club Hills, Illinois.
Sharon attended Monee Elementary School in Monee Illinois for grades 1-8. She graduated from Crete-Monee High School in Crete Illinois in 1963. From there she went to Dr. Martin Luther College in New Ulm, Minn. Graduating in 1967. She spent her summers as a assistant to a social worker at Manteno State Hospital in Manteno Illinois. Upon graduation she received a call to teach at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Burton, Michigan. There she taught grades 1-6, played organ for services and directed choirs
In 1969, on July 5th she was united in Holy Matrimony to Gerhardt (Gary) Treichel at Zion Lutheran Church in Crete, Illinois. The Lord blessed their marriage with four children: Jennifer (Jon) Johnston, Jason (Paige) Treichel, Jessica (Dave) Edwards, and Joel (Jennifer) Treichel; twelve grandchildren: Dima (Andrea) Johnston, Aleksei & Misha Johnston, Kameron Neely, Keegan (Alicia) Armour, Travis, Logan & Josie Treichel, Elijah and Joshua Edwards, Jamuel & Silas Treichel, two great grandchildren Anya & Payton and one on the way; and 49 years of married life together.
Sharon taught elementary school at Good Shepherd Lutheran School in Burton, Davison Community Schools (Wolcott & Cotright), and Grace Lutheran School in Durand. She was a substitute school teacher for several area Lutheran Schools, Swartz Creek Community Schools, and for a short time at Davison Community Schools.
Having been a 4H’er herself, as was her mother, she was actively involved in Genesee County’s 4H program. She was a leader of the Swartz Creek Livestock 4H Club and involved in the Genesee County Fair. She was proud of her grandchildren now 4th generation of 4Hers.
She loved to sew, do crafts, write letters and read. She had a real concern for shut-ins and tried to bring so joy to them with her cards, letters, and small gifts. She felt so blessed by her husband, children and grandchildren. She is also survived by two brothers; Richard (Ruth) Reils of Crete Ill, Kenneth (Jackie) Reils of Ontario Wis.; two sisters Jackie Reils of Kankakee Ill. And Michelle (Brian) Duensing of Lowell ind.; special sister-in-law Jean (Hugh) Eldred of Burton Mich; two aunts Doris Farrer and Marie Wille, one uncle Dwayne Reils; numerous nieces, great nieces and nephews and many first cousins.
Sharon died Friday June 15, 2018 at her home surrounded by family. A Celebration of her life will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday June 19, 2018 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church 5496 Lippincott Blv.
