McAfee, Katana Rae – of Grand Blanc, age 18, went to be with Jesus, her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, November 7, 2017 due to complications from a seizure. Katana was born in Owosso, MI on September 27, 1999 to her parents Christina and John. She was an honor student at the University of Michigan – Flint, pursuing a degree in Social Work, with a heart for children in the foster care system. She was also a small group bible study leader with Intervarsity Christian Fel-lowship on U of M’s campus. She was active in ministry, reaching out to victims of the human trafficking industry. She had a passion to see lost souls receive salvation and earnestly contended for the truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Anyone she met was greeted with warmth and kind-ness. She was quick to make friends and serve others, forsaking her own needs for those of oth-ers. Katana enjoyed time with friends, game night with her family, shopping, Starbucks lattes, and cuddling her baby niece, Braelyn.
Katana is survived by her loving family, her parents, Christina (Doug) Tipton and John (Val) McAfee II; sisters, Alicia Bray and fiancé Todd, Alaina and Joey Doherty, and Tiela McAfee; step-sister, Amber; grandparents, Art and Gayle Cannon, John and Barbara McAfee; great-grandparents, Polly (Jerry) Philo; nieces, Riley, Kaylee, Braelyn, and; nephew, Joey; and many other loved aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Funeral service will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday, November 11, 2017 at New Creation Church 3472 Lennon Road, Flint, Pastor Herb Banks officiating.
Visitation 12-8 p.m. Friday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road.
Katana will be at the church from 4 p.m. Saturday until the time of the service.
