McCULLOUGH, John F. - Of Flint, age 87, joined his Comrades in the Heavenly Army, Thursday, October 31, 2013.

Visitation 5-8pm Saturday and 1-8pm Sunday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint.

Funeral service will be held 11am Monday, November 4, 2013 at New Life Community Lutheran Church,7235 Torrey Road, Swartz Creek, MI with visitation at church from 10am Monday until the time of the service. Pastor David Rossow officiating.

Burial in Sunset Hills Cemetery with Military Rites under the auspices of VFW Post #822 Honor Guard.

Those desiring may make contributions to New Life Community Lutheran Church, Multiple Sclerosis or American Cancer Society.

John was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on November 9, 1925, the son of the late Charles and Catherine McCullough and the foster son of the late Anthony and Nancy LaPergola. He was a resident of the Flint area since 1954.He served in the U.S. Army for 11 years, in Europe during World War II and the Korean Conflict, as a Master Sergeant in the U.S. Infantry. On July 23, 1949, he married Elinore Marquardt in Flint. Mr. McCullough was a member of New Life Community Lutheran Church. John was a life member of 3rd Infantry Old Guard Association; life member of D.A.V. Michigan Chapter 3, life member of D.A.V. Pennsylvania, life member of D.A.V. Illinois, member of American Legion Post 294 and VFW Post #822. Mr. McCullough served as Michigan D.A.V. State Commander in 1987 and 1988, 10th District National Executive Committeeman, held a number of D.A.V. National Offices, served on many state committees and also served as commissioner of The Soldier & Sailors Relief Commission for 3 terms. John was employed by Central Transport, retiring in 1985.

Surviving are wife, Elinore;

daughters, Kathleen and husband Kevin Fox,
Nancy and husband Richard Mathers;

grandchildren, Angie Mathers,
Kristine and husband Jason Sherwood, Tracy McCullough,
Stacy McCullough and Nicholas McCullough;

great-grandchildren, Taylor, William, Phillip Michael, Zoey, Trista, Marissa, Parker, Reese and Alexis;

sister, Eleanor Phillips of Tennessee;

and best buddy, Willie the Cat.

He was preceded in death by son, Michael McCullough, on April 13, 2006; grandson, Michael, Jr.; sister, Dollie Lafferty; brother, Charles (Mickey) McCullough; foster brothers and sisters, Timothy, Patrick, Anthony, Margaret, Mary, Lee, William, Julia, Nancy, Michael and baby, Joseph.
