BRIGGS, Charles “Charley” – of Davison, age 94, passed away September 18, 2017. A Funeral Service will be held 11 AM Monday, September 25, 2017 at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Rd., Davison, MI 48423; Pastor Doug Connelly officiating. Burial, with Military Honors, will be held at Great Lakes National Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday, September 24, 2017 from 2-8 PM and Monday, September 25, 2017 from 10-11 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Charley was born in Flint, MI on May 22, 1923, son of the late Fred and Eva (Donahue) Briggs. He married Nadine Doty in 1942 and she preceded him in death on October 4, 2010. Charley proudly served our country in the U.S. Army and received the Burma Star for his service. He worked at AC Spark Plug for 55 years and attended the First Baptist Church of Davison. Charley belonged to many organizations including the Elks Club, Masons, Shriners, American Legion, WWII Veterans Association, worked for the Kearsley Basketball and Football programs until he was 90 years old, Flint Old Timers and he played for the A.C. Basketball and Softball Leagues. He was also a Genesee County Official for 58 years and supervised assigning the officials for Genesee County basketball, football, baseball and softball leagues and was the Grand Marshall at the Kearsley Homecoming Parade in 2009.
Charley is survived by his daughter, Sandra (Jack) Pulliam; son, Fred (Diane) Briggs; grandchildren, Tammy (Gary) Hundley, Shelly Ingraham, Lisa (Michael) Drazga, Chaz (Jennifer) Briggs, Beth Abraham and Cannon Pulliam; ten great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; nieces, Sally Wilson and Susan Bolanowski; nephew, Randy Bolanowski; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by brother, Fred “Sonny” Briggs; sister, Marja Bolanowski; granddaughter, Heather Pulliam.
