SMITH, Richard E. “Smitty” – of Mt. Morris, age 82, died Friday, December 30, 2016 at Regency of Grand Blanc. Funeral services will be held at 4PM Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at the O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Clio. Pastor Larry Survance officiating. Cremation to follow. Family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Wednesday from 11AM until the time of service at 4PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Genesee County Humane Society.
Dick was born October 23, 1934 in Paragould, Arkansas. He graduated from Bentley High School in 1953 and was one of the star players on their 1st state championship basketball team. He enjoyed 26 wonderful years with his wife, Sharon. Mr. Smith owned the Carriage Stop Bar in Mt. Morris and most recently the Cloverleaf Bar in Clio. Dick was also a contractor for many years. He was a member of the Clio Eagles Aerie #3609. Dick enjoyed golfing, tending to his bar, and socializing. He was a people person and enjoyed all of life’s pleasures.
Surviving are: Wife, Sharon Smith of Mt. Morris; Daughters: LueAnn (Doug) Wright of Burton and Lora Lee Smith of Clio; Son, David Richard Smith (April) of Clio; Grandchildren: Trina (Chuck) Wogaman and Marcus (Jami) Myers; 2 great grandchildren; Step children: Kima Ferrier of Flint, Jamie (Scott) Blumenthal of Indian River, and Charlotte Taylor of Mt. Morris; Many step grandchildren and great step grandchildren; Loving fur babies: Shiloh and Toby; Special friends: Joe Eddy of Clio, Jeff Redman of Mt. Morris, Carl Moore of Kalamazoo, and Frank Bovann; Sisters: Gloria and Iva Jean; Many other loving family members and dear friends. Dick was also preceded in death by his former wife, Patricia Ann; Brothers: James and Butch; Sister, Helen.
