Barbara Jean Schultz, Grand Blanc
Barbara “Barb” Schultz passed peacefully on Tuesday July 30th in her sleep following two months of recovery from a broken shoulder. Barb was undergoing rehabilitation and PT at Wellbridge of Grand Blanc with family and friends by her side every day and her wild bird friends joining in from her bedside window feeder. Barb was born on July 31,1936 in Alpena, Michigan and was married to Ted Schultz for 63 years. Ted passed in March of 2023 and was cherished and missed dearly by Barb, as he was by Jenny, Steven and the rest of his family and friends.
Barb loved being with family more than anything else. The more kids, grandkids, cousins, nieces and nephews, the better. Never one to sit still, she loved participating in whatever was happing at the time, whether that was skipping stones in the lake, roasting marshmallows over a campfire, pruning hers and everyone’s flowers, making endless dinners or watching her grandkids cheerleading or playing soccer, hockey and volleyball, she was always “all-in”.
Barb had a long and lovely 38-year career as a teacher at Michigan School for the Deaf, where she made endless friends, many that lasted her entire lifetime. Close friends and simple acquaintances knew Barb as a kind, caring and loving person that would do anything and everything for others. As a charter member of Holy Spirit Lutheran Church, she loved attending service every Sunday followed by “a two-hour cup of coffee” afterward. When it became difficult to get to church in person, you could find her watching, singing and celebrating at home from her kid’s laptops on Sunday morning.
In many ways, Barb was the center of the Schultz family, and she will be sorely missed by all.
Barb leaves behind her sister Marge of Largo, Florida; her son Steven, daughter-in-law Gail, grandchildren Kylie and Connor of Hampton, New Hampshire; her daughter Jennifer McKay, grandchildren Dylan, Nellie and Jake of Grand Blanc, Michigan; and grandson Hunter of Royal Oak, Michigan. Barb was predeceased by her son Kevin of Grand Blanc and by her husband, Ted.
Funeral Services will be held at Holy Spirit Lutheran Church in Grand Blanc at 11:00 am on Saturday August 3rd. Viewing and remembrance will be held at Swartz Funeral Home on Hill Road in Flint, Michigan on Friday August 2nd from 4:00pm – 8:00 pm.
