SMITH, Vernon L. – of Clio, age 89, died peacefully at home on Sunday, July 28, 2024. Honoring his wishes, cremation will be taking place. Vernon and his late wife, Frances, will be placed together during a ceremony at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly at a later date with full military honors.
Vernon was born March 29, 1935, in Flint, Michigan, to the late Charles and Luella (Ross) Smith. On September 22, 1956, Vernon married the love of his life and best friend, Frances J. Holbin and together they shared 65 beautiful years of marriage. Frances preceded him in death on July 16, 2022, and they are now forever together again. Mr. Smith served his country with honor in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He owned and operated S & H Glass in Clio from 1967 until his retirement in 1997. Vernon enjoyed watching NASCAR and traveling - especially trips to Florida with Frances. Above all, Vernon adored his grandchildren, and loved spending time with his family whenever possible creating cherished memories.
Surviving are: Children: Vernon Roy (Sherry A.) Smith, Robin Williams, Karri Trezona, and Shana (Jerrod) Smelker; Grandchildren: Kent A., Kristin N., Christopher, Chelsea, Katie, Brandon, Jonathon, Spencer, Amber, and Jacob; Many great grandchildren; Several Loving nieces, nephews, other family members, and dear friends.
