Mother Melvina was born August 31, 1936 in Chicago, ILL., the daughter of Samuel Owens and Viney Owens. As a young child Melvina grew up in Flint after family relocated to Flint. She attended Flint Schools. She was a member of Shiloh Miss. Baptist Church as a child and a young adult. Later in life she became a member of New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church.
Later years she was one of the founding members of Family Worship Center with Pastors Timothy and Tonya Stokes. Melvina was employed at Hurley Medical Center where she worked in the linen and laundry room. Mother Fields served on the Pastor’s Aide at Family Worship Center until she was no longer able to do so due to the health of her husband.
She loved to sew, and she enjoyed her in door house plants. If she knew someone was ill, she would always try to make contact with them “her grandchildren meant the world to her”.
Mother departed this life on July 29, 2020 in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma moving there after her health declined.
She leaves to cherish sweet memories her 2 children, Donna (Boyice) Riley of Broken Arrow, Ok., Wayne (Linda) Fields of Lawrence Mass., 4 grandchildren Rodney (Tenessha), Shannon and Lisa Burton all of Broken Arrow, Ok. and Tiffany (Mark) Majors of Waldorf, Maryland.
5 great grandchildren, Beauty and Cherish of Waldorf, Maryland, Lassa, Jalen and Jasmine of Broken Arrow, Ok., brother James (Marium) Owens of Colo Springs, Colorado, sister, Joyce Rosemary Owens, brother in laws, Milton Fields, Amos Fields of all Flint, MI, Wade (Ollie) Fields, Curtis (Merlene) Fields of Grand Blanc, MI, sister in laws, Jimmie Fields of Grand Blanc, MI, Annalee Nelson, Betha lee ((Sam) Walker all of Flint, MI.,
A host of nieces, nephews, and cousins including special cousins, Gloria Reeves of Mt. Morris, MI., and Mamie of Los Angeles, CA. and special friend Nina Miller of Grand Blanc, MI.
She was preceded in death by her husband Porter Fields, Sr. whom went ahead of her 6 months ago, son Porter Fields Jr., Rev. Anderson and Mother Jemima Fields ,brother in law Willie Gene Fields, Father and, and many nieces and sister in laws.
The family of Mother Melvina Fields would like to express their deepest gratitude to everyone for their acts of love extended to our family in our time of loss.
