REYES, Rafael M., age 75, of Flint, died Friday, March 16, 2012 at Brian’s House in Davison. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at Our Lady of Guadalupe, 2316 W. Coldwater Road, Flint. Rev. Msgr. Richard Groshek officiating. Interment to follow at Flint Memorial Park. Mr. Reyes will lie in state at the church at 10 a.m. Wednesday. The family will receive friends Tuesday, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home 1480 E. Hill Road, Grand Blanc. A Rosary service will be held Tuesday at 7 p.m. Rafael was born on March 31, 1936 in Seguin, Texas, son of the late Daniel and Dominga (Montanez) Reyes. A former resident of Seguin, TX, Rafael had served as the head cook at Randolph Air Force Base in Randolph, TX. When he moved to Michigan he became employed with G.M./ Buick Motors where he worked until his retirement in 1993. Rafael was a member of: Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church; Holy Redeemer Catholic Church; Cabarellos de San Juan; Cursillista; a team leader for the Cursillo Movement; and Children Without Love. He enjoyed golfing, landscaping, billiards, cards, baseball, and was the greatest grill-master. His love of music developed him into an accomplished accordionist. Rafael, a jack-of-all-trades, was known for his masterful skills in carpentry, plumbing and automobiles. His love and concern for children caused him to become a foster parent as well as a teacher and mentor to family members and young people. He was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Irene Reyes in 2000. Rafael is survived by his daughters Diane (Reyes) and husband Jerry Rutter and Belen (Reyes) and husband Tony Alvarez, grandchildren Diane (Michael) Garcia, Juan Gutierrez, Monica Morones, Tabitha (Eric) Thurston, and Rafael Reyes, and great grandchildren Alexis Guevara, Marco Guevara, Michael Garcia II, and Brayden Garcia. He is also survived by his companion Josie Reyes and sisters Susie Perez, Delia Carrilo, and Alicia Castellanos. Donations may be made to Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.
