GILROY, Howard Leslie - Of Flint, age 87, died Monday, July 10, 2017
at Genesys Regional Medical Center.
Funeral service will be held 2pm Saturday, July 15, 2017 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint.
Cremation will take place following the service.
Those desiring may make contributions to American Cancer Society.
Visitation 5-8pm Thursday and 1-4pm and 6-8pm Friday and 12Noon Saturday until the time of the service at the funeral home.
Howard was born in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan on December 30, 1929, the son of the late Harry Gilroy and Georgina Shufelt. He married Margaret (Maggie) Shields on March 12, 1949 in Linden, Michigan and she preceded him in death in 2007. Howard owned and operated GLC Bowling Balls, Inc., from 1959 until 2005. Mr. Gilroy was in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1952 through 1954. He was inducted into the Flint Bowling Hall of Fame, the Greater Flint Sports Hall of Fame and the Michigan Bowling Hall of Fame.
Surviving are brother in law, Frank (Sue) Shields;
sisters, Coralie and Jim Lamoreaux, Glenda and husband Joe Gray;
brother, Wendell Gilroy of Flint;
step-brother, Donald Gilroy and step-sister, Marjorie Kohlman;
and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Marian Woodby and Delores Swosinski and Lois Toth.
