REED, Ronald R. -- Age 86, of Flint died February 7, 2020. Funeral services will be held 11AM Tuesday, February 11 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek. Burial at Sunset Hills Cemetery, Flint. Visitation will be 4PM - 6PM Sunday and 2PM - 4PM and 6PM - 8PM Monday at the funeral home.
Ron was born June 30, 1933 in Flint, the son of Roy and Elsie Reed. He graduated from Flint Central High School and received a Bachelor's of Science in Mechanical Engineering from GMI in 1956. He married Nancy Torrey on October 18, 1958. Ron worked for Chevrolet Flint Manufacturing for 41 years, retiring in 1992. He was an active member of Hope United Methodist Church for many years. He was active with his sons in YMCA Indian Guides and Boy Scouts. Ron enjoyed traveling to various parts of the world, camping (especially at his favorite, Ludington State Park), playing cards, deer hunting, and fishing. In retirement he was a member of the Retired Men's Fellowship of Greater Flint. He relaxed in the summer at his cottage and kept busy attending his grandchildren's events . He made friends everywhere he went including the walking group at the mall and at his physical therapy and doctor visits.
Ron is survived by his wife Nancy: three sons and daughter in laws, Tom (Echo), Tim (Honor), and Jim (Tracy); 6 grandchildren, Tommy and Abby (Tony), Zach and Katye, Andrew and Melanie (Daniel); 3 great grandchildren, Brady, Luciana, and Francesca; twin sister, June; sister in law, Stella; many nieces and nephews and friends.
Ron and his family were blessed and grateful to have many compassionate caregivers assisting him.
