Geraldine was born on May 9, 1938 in Flint, Michigan to Rex D. and Mary (Hammond) Kingsbury. She spent most of her life living in Flint, Beecher District, and Corunna, Michigan. For a short time, as a young child, her parents moved to New Jersey. She had nine siblings: Jerry (Margaret) Kingsbury, Marvin (Agnes) Kingsbury, Rex D. (Ellizabeth) Kingsbury Jr., Beulah (Henry) Norris, Rexine (Ronald) Hollenbeck, Mary (Claude) Smith, Vera (Stewart) Massey, Beverly (John) Shock, and Irene (Doyle) Dustin.
On February 25, 1954, she married her high school sweetheart, Edward L. Grant. They were married for 64 years and had four children; Roxanne L. (Dave) Moore, Ruth (Greg) Stockwell, Bunnie (Andrew) Pardee, and Edward L. (Cheryl) Grant Jr. They had nine grandchildren; Corrina (Chris) Yeager, Rachel (Adam) Coselmon, Annesia (James) Welch, Adam (Jaime) Pardee, Paula Pardee, Audrey (DJ) Tyler, Chantel "Bay" Person, Cara (Kyle) Maddox, and Anna (Michael) Crenshaw; 28 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren.
Her family always came first to her, she would assist them every chance she could. Her hobbies, when she was physically able to, were gardening, taking care of the animals on the farm, traveling, and taking short trips around Michigan, Ohio, and Indiana. She taught her children to be honest, self reliant, and independent. At the age of 33, in January of 1972, she became quadriplegic. She never gave up and persevered with the assistance of Ed, her children, her sisters and sister-in-law Jean Pilon.
She worked along with Ed to build the family business of E & D Collision, later opening her own business Tropical Pet Paradise until their retirement in 1985. They traveled to Florida every year after retiring, for many years, staying around their home in Fenton in the late 1990s until they moved into Stonegate Health Campus.
Geraldine was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings. She is survived by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Connie (John) Morris; brother in-law, Ronald Hollenbeck and many nieces and nephews.
Geraldine's family would like to thank the staff at Stonegate Health Campus in Lapeer for their excellent care and love for her, and to McLaren Hospice, especially Jimmy, for providing care and comfort to her in her last years. Tributes may be shared at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com. |
