BROWN, Dorene S. – of Clio, age 80, died peacefully, Saturday, July 28, 2018 at Maple Woods Manor of Clio. Funeral services will be held 11AM Tuesday, August 7, 2018 at New Covenant Church, 13176 N. Linden Rd., in Clio. Pastor Dan Shinabarger officiating. Burial in Flint Memorial Park. The family will receive visitors at the O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Clio on Monday from 3PM until 8PM and at the church on Tuesday from 10AM until the time of service at 11AM. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Dorene was born April 15, 1938 in Flint, Michigan to the late Percy and Evelyn (Heviland) Lang. She graduated from Flint Technical High School in 1956. Dorene married Gerald D. Brown on April 26, 1958 in Flint. He preceded her in death May 13, 2017. She created beautiful wedding cakes throughout her life and was talented with all kinds of crafting and sewing, she was known for her amazing scrubbies and dish cloths. Dorene was a 36-year member of the Roving Ramblers, 55-year member of Foresters (IOF), 18-year member of the Senior Winter Games, and a member of TOPS (Take Pounds off Sensibly), achieving the status of KOPS (Keeping Pounds off Sensibly) for 20 years. Dorene’s husband was a member of the UAW Local # 651 and together they attended many sponsored events. She performed with several dance troupes over the years, including the Flushing Center Stage for Tap and Jazz. Dorene also performed with the Clio Senior Center’s Line Dancers and Rhinestone Cloggers. Dorene enjoyed walking the Crim every year and accomplished every state while traveling with her husband. Dorene also enjoyed playing all types of games, especially Dominoes. Above all, she loved spending time with her husband, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Surviving are: Sons: Gary (Milly) Brown, David (Margaret) Brown, Stewart (Tammie) Brown, and Larry (Adrienne) Brown; Grandchildren: Garrett (Angela) Brown, Timothy (Sara) Brown, Logan (Nikki) Brown, Mackenzie (Spencer) Eckert, Malia Brown, Addison (Jared) Markva, Karina (Jason) Mize, and Isabella Brown; Great grandchildren: Xander Brown, Penelope Brown, and Grayson Markva; Siblings: Joanne Tappen, Ronald (Diane) Lang, Janet Adkins, and Janice (Mike) West. Many other loving family members and friends. Dorene was preceded in death by her grandson, Christopher Brown; Sister, Barb Killinger; Brothers: Charles Lang, and Robert Lang.
