HATTER, Mrs. Barbara Jean, age 74, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, January 22nd, 2013. Family hour will be Tuesday January 29th from 12-3 and 5-8 at Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Rd, Flint, with funeral commencing at 11 AM Wednesday, January 30th. Interment Flint Memorial Park next to her son Dr. Marcus Hatter, 9506 N. Dort Hwy, Mt. Morris. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home at 10:30 AM Wednesday.

Mrs. Barbara Jean Hatter was born July 3rd, 1938 in Blytheville, Arkansas, the daughter of Jessie and Willie Mae King. Barbara met the love of her life Henry, in Saginaw, MI in 1954 at age 17. They were married in Flint, MI on April 22, 1956. Barbara and Henry welcomed their first child March 7th 1957. Barbara returned to high school and graduated from, Henry’s Alma Mater, Flint Central High School.

Barbara graduated from Baker College with her degree in Medical Coding. She was employed by Hurley Medical Center for over 30 years. She leaves to cherish her memory devoted husband, Henry, daughter Kelly Mitchell (Lorenzo), son Henry Hatter II (Martone), adopted son, DeAngelo Deloney. Grandchildren Jessica, Elizabeth Holey (David), Miranda, Rachael, Marcus, Aaron, Joshua, and Kaitlyn. Great-grandchildren, Neveah and MarLisa. Brothers Kenneth King (Sandra), Jessie King (Bertha), Ivan King (Doris), Carl King (Mae), and Vernon King. Brothers in-law Jim, Lorenzo (Mattie), Jameel (Gerlene), Raymond (Courtney), Glenn (Mae), JD Steward and James Ragston; sisters in law Margaret Pollard (Alvin) and Barbara Perkins (Tony) and a host of many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents Jessie and Willie Mae King, her stepmother Cleo King, her sisters, Erma King and Gloria King, her beloved son, Dr. Marcus Hatter, father and mother in law, Frank and Isabella Hatter, and sisters in-law Mary Frances Ragston and Cornelia Steward. She also leaves her canine companion Jay.

Barbara was an avid sports enthusiast that could hold her own. She spent many nights and weekends watching a variety of sports engaging in conversations with her husband, children and grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Dr. Marcus Hatter Clio Class of 1975 Scholarship fund PO Box 552, Clio MI 48420. Barbara was an organ donor and an advocate for the National Kidney Foundation.

The family wishes to thank Hurley Hospital’s Dr. Peacock, social worker, “Dee”, Dr. Fay Latture, Bernie Borden, Janet at Clio CHC, Debbie Drabek at Clio Schools, both to all the King and Hatter families for their unconditional love and support during this time and all of the donors to the Dr. Marcus Hatter Scholarship to Clio students.
