EAKIN, Catherine J. – of Montrose, age 85, died Friday, June 27, 2020 at Regency Nursing Home in Grand Blanc. A private family service will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, July 1, 2020 at O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Montrose, Michigan. Pastor Hal Phillips officiating. Burial in Montrose Township Cemetery. The family will receive visitors on Tuesday, June 30, 2020 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Montrose. There will be an Order of Eastern Star service at 7:00PM Tuesday evening. Memorial contributions can be made to the Montrose United Methodist Church.
Catherine was born April 2, 1935 in Hancock, Michigan to the late Walter and Myrtle (Baker) Dugdale. She grew up in Hancock, Michigan and then moved to Flint, graduating from Northwestern High School with the class of 1966. She then received her Teaching Degree from the University of Michigan in 1971. On May 5, 1950 she married Frederick Eakin Jr. in Houghton, Michigan. Prior to her retirement in 1986, she was a Teacher at Edgerton Elementary in Clio for 15 years. She was a member of the Montrose United Methodist Church and a lifetime member of the Order of Eastern Star #351 in Montrose. She served as the Worthy Matron for 6 years in lodge # 351. Catherine liked painting, sewing, knitting and crocheting. She also enjoyed making porcelain dolls and flower arrangements.
Surviving are: Husband of 70 years, Fred Eakin; Children, Roger (Sharon) Eakin, Larry (Bridget) Eakin, Brian Eakin; 10 Grandchildren; 19 Great-Grandchildren; Siblings, Warren (Gwen) Dugdale, Gladys Knuuti; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her Parents; Siblings, Walter Dugdale, Dorothy Heckel, Fred Dugdale, Shirley Harwell.
