BOWER, Joseph H. – Of Davison, age 93, entered the presence of his Lord on Monday, January 5, 2015.
Joseph was born on January 22, 1921, in Leonadis, MI, son of Adam and Marie Bower.
He was united in marriage to Kathleen M. Johnson, on November 23, 1942. They faithfully served The Lord over 50 years.
Joseph has served as Senior Pastor in churches in Indiana, Illinois, Ohio and Michigan.
He also served as Member of The Council of General Association of Regular Baptist Churches and as Board Member of Grand Rapids Baptist Bible College; Cedarville University, Cedarville, OH; and Faith Baptist Bible College, Ankeny, Iowa.
In addition, Joseph served on The Board of Baptist Mid-Missions. During his many years of ministry, he also built several churches and youth camps.
He retired in 2012, completing 71 years in the ministry. He will be remembered as a faithful servant and minister of The Gospel, as well as a man with big hands and heart for people.
Joseph was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen; their daughter, Faith Schaaf; sister, Ruth Harmon of Brazil, S.A. and brother, Spencer Bower, of Minneapolis, MN.
Surviving are wife, Florence, who shared his ministry since Feb. 6, 1993; his daughters, Ruth Fields, (Rev. John) of Newaygo, MI, Miriam DeVaney (Kenneth) of Kalamazoo, MI, Becky Grieves (Gordon) of Gatlinburg, TN; son, Rev. David Bower (Donna) of Ladoga, IN; son-in-law, Charles Schaaf of Davison, MI;
13 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held at First Baptist Church, 1212 Knollwood Drive, Lapeer, MI 48446 on Monday, January 12, 2015 at 1 p.m., The Rev. David J. Bower and Rev. John Fields officiating.
The family will receive visitors at Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road 6-8 p.m. Saturday and 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday and 12 p.m. Monday at church until the time of the service at 1 p.m.
Burial will be held the following day at Lakeside Cemetery in Colon, MI for family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the suggested memorial gifts to First Baptist Church, Lapeer, MI and/or North Baptist Church, Flint, MI or Reverence Hospice of Grand Blanc, MI.
