Britt, Mr. Oscar McKinney, age 87, passed away Sunday, June 9, 2013 at Maple Wood Manor. Funeral services will be held 12 noon Saturday, June 15, 2013 from the Greater Galilee Baptist Church, 4418 Industrial Ave., Pastor Latrelle W. Holmes officiating. Interment River Rest Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Family and friends will assemble at the church 11am for visitation. Mr. Britt now repose in the chapel of the Martin J. Banks Funeral Home and may be viewed until 8pm this evening.
Mr. Oscar McKinney Britt “Doc” as he was called was born May 23, 1926 in Sampson County, North Carolina to the late John Britt and Annie (Royal) Britt.
Oscar spent most of his early years as a Tenant Farmer, he and his late wife Mamie (Lee) Britt during those years together raised 9 children. After deciding that he had had enough of the farm life, he relocated his family to Flint, Michigan where he began working for Buick City Plant #36 in 1967. He retired in 1992, having worked for General Motors for 25 years. After retirement he did what he loved best, fishing, watching the Detroit Tigers and spending time with friends and family.
Mr. Oscar Britt leaves to cherish his memory: 8 children, Alonza (Betty Jean) Lee, of Smithfield, North Carolina, Kinney Ray Britt, Wayman Patrick (Dyna) Britt of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Jimmie Lee Britt, Vida Jean Morgan, James Curtis (Elaine) Britt, Vaddie Jay (Vivian) Britt, and Katrina (Alvin) Hare of Flint, Michigan; sister, Essie Leach of Flint, Michigan; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, cousins; and special friends, Mr. C.F. Smith and Miss Christine Palmore.
Mr. Oscar M. Britt was preceded in death by his wife, Mamie (Lee) Britt; 2 daughters, Myrtle Lee and Joyce Ann Britt; parents, John James and Annie (Royal) Britt; 5 brothers, Flashman Britt, Leamon Britt, Raymond Britt, Ennis Britt, and Paul Britt, Sr.; 2 sisters, Mary (Britt) Wilson, and Ada (Campbell) Stancil. |
