Decker, Edith A. of Flushing, age 91, died Saturday, August 6, 2016, at her home. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 11, 2016, at St. Robert Catholic Church. Fr. Roy Horning will officiate. Burial will follow at New Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Wednesday at Rossell Funeral Home and 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the church until the time of the Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Flushing Christian Outreach Center, Flushing Area Senior Center or the Red Cross.
Edith was born in Carney, Michigan on October 29, 1924, the daughter of Loddie and Stella (Kalcik) Jerabek. She attended Northern Michigan Teachers College, presently Northern Michigan University. Edith married Edward J. Decker in Powers, Michigan and he preceded her in death in 1983. She was employed by the Genesee-Lapeer Chapter of the American Red Cross for 32 years where she served as Director of Emergency Services for 20 of those years. Following retirement, she worked as a Red Cross volunteer. Edith was a member of St. Robert Catholic Church and volunteered at the Flushing Area Senior Center and SALT (Senior and Law Enforcement Together) and several other organizations.
She is survived by her beloved granddaughter, Molly Decker of Flushing; sister, Iris Hogan of Alphretta, GA; brother, Nestor and wife Gloria Jerabek of Green Bay, WI; special nieces, Patricia Wiatr and Mary Spaggiari; special nephew, Jeffrey Morse; many other cherished nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law, Ann and husband Frank Buys, Rose Jensen, Gertrude and husband Walter Servia; brothers-in-law, Antone Decker, Clarence and wife Irene Decker; valued friends, Edie, Fran, Linda W., Sandra P., Patricia K., and many other dear friends. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Edward K. Decker; daughter-in-law, Becky Smithson Decker; sister, Inez Ruesch; brother, Austin Jerabek. |
